TDAS Lifetime Achievement Awards

The Lifetime Achievement Awards is a biannual award and it is only given when an appropriate honoree is available. The two honorees receive a suitable plaque and they are invited to opening/closure session at a TDAS Conference.

2018 TDAS Lifetime Achievement Awards winners:

Tawfik Jelassi is Professor of Strategy and Technology Management at IMD Business School in Lausanne (Switzerland).  He is also Director of the OWP program in Lausanne and Singapore, which is IMD’s largest executive education program (attracting annually 600 executives).  Before joining IMD, Dr. Jelassi was Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Information & Communication Technologies in the transition-to-democracy Government of Tunisia.  Prior to that, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ooredoo Tunisia, the leading mobile telecom operator in the country.  Between 2000 and 2013, he was Professor and Dean of the School of International Management at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (Paris).  Prior to that, he was Associate Professor and Chairman of the Technology Management Department at INSEAD (Fontainebleau). Dr. Jelassi holds a Ph.D. degree from the Stern School of Business at New York University (USA).  His teaching and research interests are in the area of digital transformation and leadership.  His publications appeared in leading conference proceedings and refereed academic journals, including MIS Quarterly, Journal of MIS and Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, as well as in practitioner-oriented publications such as Harvard Business Review, MIS Quarterly Executive, and the European Management Journal. He has also published six books, the latest of which entitled “Strategies for e-Business” (Pearson, 2014) was translated into Chinese and Korean.  His case studies received numerous awards from the European Foundation for Management Department (EFMD), the UK-based Case Centre, and the US-based Society for Information Management. Professor Jelassi has taught extensively on MBA, Executive MBA and executive education programs in over a dozen countries around the world.  He was granted in Europe and the USA several teaching excellence awards.  Furthermore, the President of Tunisia awarded him two national decorations: “The Order of merit in the fields of education and science” and “The Order of the Republic”.

Rules and Regulations

The first Lifetime Achievement Award is intended to honor the highest level of achievement in Decision Aid by a business leader.  The Award Criteria are:

  • The honoree must have demonstrated sustained leadership and innovation that significantly altered decision sciences practice.
  • Furthermore, this leadership and innovation must be such that it significantly impacts in industries beyond the home industry of the honoree, and is the subject of academic attention in major business schools.
  • The honoree should be in the later stages of his/her career or be recently retired.

The second Lifetime Achievement Award is intended to recognize a researcher for his/her outstanding contribution and who has demonstrated significant impact in their respective fields.

The primary nominations for these awards can be made by a TDAS member showing the significant accomplishments of the nominee and justifying why the nominee is deserving of this recognition.  A summary of the nominee’s major accomplishments highlighting their impact in such a way that a person from another discipline can appreciate the significance and uniqueness of the nominee’s contribution. The TDAS Lifetime Achievement Awards Committee is composed of the Executive Committee of the TDAS Board of Directors.
